The traditional TOP 100 trophy has been awarded for 23 years now and is the only company comparison of the German middle class which does not only awards particular innovations, it awards also the innovative power and the outstandingly breakthroughs of the companies.
In this year, the company SERRA with it’s sawmill technology has been awarded and therefore is a member of these innovation elite. The Bavarian company previously took part in a sophisticated and scientific competition. Examined were the innovation management and the breakthroughs. The well-known University of Economics in Vienna is the scientific management and evaluation and is responsible for the application documents. Mentor of the TOP 100 is the well-known science journalist and TV-hostRangar Yogeshwar.
“When a sawmill comes to the logs” That’s how the successful story of the company SERRA Maschinenbau GmbH from Rimsting started 26 years ago. The company founder Mr. Hans Fritz developed in 1990 the first mobile sawmill. Seven years ago, his son Mr. Johann Fritz took over and leads this family company. More than a half of his time, the Bavarian businessman is working on new innovations and improvements. His 36 employees do it like he does: They submit new ideas again and again which the managing director last realized 80%. Today the family company sells it’s mobile, stationary and industrial sawmilling technology in 77 countries all over the world. “We have learned in our long company history, that we can only survive on the world market, if we bring unique products to it, which we develop, build and commercialize also in an unique way” declares Mr. Johann Fritz
The automatization for example for the log handling on the machine and its different accessories around the sawmill for a faster material flow has a very high and unique standard in this market segment. Since some machines are also portable, the corrosion protection is very important. The new developed mobile sawmills from SERRA are the only ones in the market that count on a total galvanized main frame. Because of the international markets which are being supplied by the company SERRA, the technology has been developed to work under different conditions: -48°C (-54°F) in Siberia or 48 °C (118 °F) with high humidity in the tropical countries. For these conditions the electric, hydraulic and materials have been carefully selected and developed. Because of this the sawmills have a very low depreciation level, granting that after a years the machines maintain a very high resell price.
Based on special customer’s requirement the company develops also special machines, like for example for a balsa products manufacturer. Among their products there are the wings of the wind power plants. For the UN in Liberia during the Ebola crises two SERRA sawmills were the only producer of lumber for hospitals and administration buildings.
More than 50% of the SERRA sawmills are manufactured, delivered and used as stationary. The company SERRA produces also industrial sawmilling plants like for example in French Guyana. “In the Picture: Prize award
future we will keep on developing our industrial sawmilling plants, since there are currently lots of
requests and interest in our custom fitted solutions for it” mentions Mr. Johann Fritz.
